I would like to take a moment and thank you for being such an awesome road warrior. Minus a few caffeine-related meltdowns you helped craft the best road trip of my life!

Mom--

I wondered where you were.... a week is a long time to be unplugged (especially from Facebook!)... RE: the typo... I guess it felt like "miles" to me....
I'm adjusting to the Midwest weather.....there was a "fake storm" as I call it that was supposed to hit but never did. So half the day, it's dark and gloomy and you're waiting for the rain to take over? Craziness.
xoxo, Lisa

Monica-
Thanks so much! Walley World? Really? I bet you have some great stories. That's a big compliment re: Maureen Corrigan. Hopefully, that will happen! Thanks for your support!

Lisa,
Enjoyed your travelogue. I moved to California in 1968 with my parents. We took 66 the whole way (ditto 63 trip featuring cheap motels/all u can eat buffets, buffalo burgers - ending in Walley World)
It's time for Maureen Corrigan to review your book on NPR. She has an astonishing reverence for Jennifer Weiner - why not you?
Have fun in the midwest.

Just checked FB after a week and so happy to see your blogerny (that's combining blog of a journery)....I hope you submit this to a travel magazine!! You may want to adjust your first item to 4,000 feet instead of miles :-)!! unless you were referring to sea level....anyway welcome to the CST and Midwest!!! (since I am a Kansas girl, I still think of myself from the Midwest instead of the Southwest....Mom

Astra--You are so funny! You have a writer in you dying to escape! I'm telling you--you are truly talented!

#1--Re: 0 Starbucks, I wanted to kill...at times, I really, really did (as poor Matt & Moo Cow can attest). But I held it together and relied on many, many cups of good old fashioned diner coffee.
#2--Harley--so BTB, right? I knew you'd appreciate the crazy eye!! You should've seen it in person...actually, scratch that, better in pictures. Harley's a lot to take! I'm not sure I'd sick him on any of my friends! And his hair... oh my... he was in need of a serious deep conditioning treatment. I should send him some Bumble & Bumble as I don't think he's washed his hair since he opened the joint back in 1984
#3--I totally plagiarized "hot mess" from you!! I think of you every time I say it and write it (which is a lot now as it really has quite a ring to it! I could have definitely also used "busted" to describe Harley. And for Annabelle, there are no words.. She lets him do most of the talking, singing, etc.. She kind of just follows along quietly and acts as his back up dancer throughout his "route 66 routine"...
#4--Moo Cow wasn't having any part of Huggy Jesus. HE said mooooooove over, Huggy, there's a new cow in town. (Moo Cow was made for me by Matt & the kids at Build a Bear--which now allows you to build a dinosaur, cat...even cow. He wears an argyle vest because they modeled him after my cougar crush, Justin Timberlake--who as you may or may not know, likes to dress preppy. So, his full name is Justin Tim "moo" lake
#5--I wish I could take credit. But I think it was Liz who came up with this. But I tell you the combo last name is the way to go...and if you can, try to be first!! Like me!!

Half to the X, Half to the O

Lisa... First off, SO happy to read that you shmoved to IL! You know I LOVE love (just not the hugging part). :)

Okay... this blog was off the charts!!! So hilarious that I was inspired to create my "Top 5 Stannenfeldts Moments Along Route 66"
#1- "0 Number of Starbucks"- so who did you kill and bury in a fit of "no Starbucks quality caffeine rage?" Did Harley help you bury the body? That leads me to...
#2- "Harley"- wow... talk about Crazy Eye!!! In the You Tube, he smelled his arm pit and then said, "I'm a redneck?" Oh, maybe I got it wrong. Maybe he said "I'm a redneck" FIRST before smelling his arm pit. Unsure whose hair needs a hot conditioner, color and cut more-- his or Annabelle? Speaking about Harley...
#3- "Hot Mess"- Unsure which I like more... you being closing down the Route 66 nightlife right before weaving up the Grand Canyon OR you referring to yourself as a "hot mess!" Love that you used that phrase... First "hot mess," then "busted," then... "swagga!!" What what!!
#4- "Moo Cow" and "Huggy Jesus"- stop it right here! hilarious!! I'm assuming Moo Cow was yours from back in the day? What did Moo Cow think when he (or she??) locked eyes with Huggy Jesus? (rather lock eyes with Huggy Jesus than Harley! sorry!!)
#5- "The Stannenfeldts"- okay, seriously? You're so in love with the name combining! Love seems to elude me, but if it ever happens, I would combine my last name... Hell of a lot easier than morphing "Astra" with some other guy's name.
