Have we ever mentioned the majuh love we have for NYT bestselling author Meg Cabot? Between Liz’s slight obsession with her YA novels (Um, does Princess Diaries ring a bell for anyone?) and Lisa’s love for her Chick Lit Queen of Babble series , we consider ourselves huge fans. Not to mention how we crush on her witty tweets and Facebook updates. And once you see the, um, creative way she approached her five things, we think that you’ll be girl crushin’ on her too.
And we also have an AWESOME giveaway to share with y’all! Just keep reading to find out what it is…
But first, we have to tell you about Cabots’s latest YA release. It’s high fashion with a touch of sci-fi. In Runaway, the dramatic conclusion to the bestselling and acclaimed Airhead novels, Emerson Watts is on the run: from school, from work, from her family, from her friends, from herself. And we all know that no one does YA better than Meg Cabot! Click here to read more about the Airhead series.
And the fabulous giveaway we mentioned? A Bare Minerals Extreme Glimmers eyecolor set and Airhead Prize pack that includes Airhead, Being Nikki and Runaway. Just leave a comment to be entered. This contest will run for two weeks so be sure to tell all your friends to head over for their chance to win!

CHICK LIT IS NOT DEAD PRESENTS: 5 THINGS LIZ & LISA DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT MEG CABOT!
Since I’ve been blogging circa 2003 (and everything that’s not on my blog is either in my books or on my Twitter), it’s hard to think of five things everybody doesn’t already know about me!
But as a thank you to Chick Lit Is Not Dead for having me here today, I’ll give it a try: The 5 photos no one has ever seen of me (for good reason)!
I’ll admit I came up with the concept for Runaway (which has a modeling/murder theme) because I hate getting my photo taken. In fact, it was during a book tour that I came up with the idea for the Airhead series… a brain transplant. Because I would rather have one of those (into Heidi Klum’s body, of course) than deal with getting my picture taken.
That’s because for every good photo of me, there are at least five terrible photos of me.
I call into evidence the following:
1. I have a lazy eye. Not a charming Paris Hilton, if-I-tilt-my-head-the-other- way-it-will-be-all-right lazy eye. An I-look-like-I-just-had-ten-beers Lazy Eye.
This was taken at the vet’s office. I wasn’t drunk. But I look like I am.
2. I also have what my mom calls the Mounsey Squint (her maiden name is Mounsey). Here’s a good example. It’s how I look in most photos that readers have taken with me at book signings. It’s why they always go, “Oh, your eyes were closed. Can we take that again?”
Don’t bother. My eyes are actually open. It’s the Mounsey Squint:
3. Because of this, I have grown pathologically afraid of having photos taken of me at any time. This is how I now react whenever anyone comes close with a camera, and I’m not on tour and REQUIRED to smile:
4. If there is nothing handy to cram over my face, I am apparently not above resorting to charming expressions like this one in the hope that the photographer will just go away (all of our vacation albums are filled of photos of me looking like this):
5. In a sly effort to combat all of the above, the last time I had my author photo done, my publisher sent over professional fashion photographer Ali Smith, her assistant, this makeup artist, and her ten-ton arsenal of equipment.
Don’t worry Meg, we aren’t very photogenic either! To read more about the hilarious Meg Cabot, click here!
And check out what Lisa wrote about Meg over at Barnes and Noble!
xo, Liz & Lisa

I teach middle schoolers who love Meg’s books. I’ll share this site with them (if I can ever get my white board to work again). They’ll get a kick out of knowing one of their favorite author’s is a real person.
Rebecca, that’s what’s so great about her. She shows that she’s human. Your students will love to see that!
Love all the books!
I adore Meg Cabot! I’ve read every book she’s put out, and love all of them. Whenever I meet fellow chick lit lovers, the first thing I make sure is that they’ve read something by Meg. I’ve so far managed to convert half a dozen people into fanatics, like me :P
Rebecca, You should! I bet they would love it!
I have been in love with Meg Cabot for years and I grew up reading all her books! All her books managed to give the sweetest escapes from reality and are extremely addicting. Meg is ingenious, hilarious, and has incredible shoe taste! I don’t know what I would do without her.
I love all of her books. I’ve read as much as I can, but have yet to read the Airhead series… However, I think my favorite are her Princess series books. I love Mia and her struggle to become a princess everyone would be proud of, especially herself.
I think this is one of my favorite top fives. Leave it to Meg to think of something this unique!!!
Courtney–thanks. It’s one of our faves too!
Love it! Thanks for the laugh!
LOVE Meg Cabot!! Every time I read one of her books it’s like I’m talking to a really good friend who happens to make up these crazy awesome stories! Keep ‘em coming, Meg!
That’s why we love Meg: she’s witty, she’s funny and she’s real – she’s just like one of us.
Love her! Love her books!
I love Meg! she is so funny and talented. Every one of her blogs feels like your best friend wrote it. I have nothing but love for her and her books. <3
Meg is one of my very favorite authors. She’s gotten me through some pretty tough times medically. I’ve spent MANY nights at the hospital reading her books! She’s so down to earth! I absolutely LOVE her (and not just for her obvious amazing writing talents)!
xOxx Amy
Park-Avenue Princess
I love Meg Cabot! She writes such strong leading characters that are really inspirational and good role models. I am so obsessed with all her books that sometime I feel as though Liz, Suze, Mia and Jess are my closest circle of friends. Thank you Liz and Lisa for realizing what an amazing author Meg is. And Meg thank you for being amazing!!!
What a fun post! I’ve read most of Meg’s books and read her blog regularly, too. I’m excited for Runaway, I enjoyed the first two books in the series and am happy to know how Em’s adventure will end. Thanks!
She can’t write books fast enough for me…I love her!
LOVE Meg Cabot and the Airhead series! I’ve read Airhead and Being Nikki at least like 4 times each! I can’t wait for Runaway! I would love to win this! It would be awesome!
I really really really love this series, and I think Meg Cabot is one of the most hilarious authors out there. I love reading all her books and can’t wait until Runaway is released. (I’d love to be entered into this contest!)
I love her books. Can’t wait for it to come out.
Absolutely LOVE Meg! Everything she writes, from tweets to books, is fun and well-worth reading. Thanks for posting about this!
I love Meg Cabot and I love Bare Minerals! Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to read any of the Airhead series yet, but I can’t wait to, even if I don’t win them!

Can’t WAIT to read Runaway, loved the other two books. Meg is a great writer and these photos make her so real and relatable to the rest of us!!
I loved the pictures and how meg shows us this side of her! I love both her YA and big girl books!
The best thing about Meg’s writing is that it is universal. No matter whether she is writing for kids, teens or adults all of her series are fun and a great read. You can be 20, 30, 40, 50…. and still have a blast reading her books for younger crowd. Or maybe all it takes is being young at heart, just like Meg is :D . Thanks Meg for all the great reads.
Hi! I just discovered this website, and I love, love, love it! A lot of times I get bored with blogs (outside of Meg Cabot’s and Ally Carter’s) but I read these straight through, plus, I laughed a lot!
I love Meg Cabot!! She is hilariously relatable!
Nallely, we love that she writes all types of books too! Thanks for commenting!
Maria– we couldn’t agree more! Thanks for stopping by our site!
Emerald- YEAH! Thanks so much! PS: Will have to check out Ally Carter’s! PSS: Thanks for laughing! We consider that the best compliment we can get! Hope you keep visiting us. If only for the hope we’ll get continued praise from you ;)
Jennifer–Thanks so much for commenting. Good luck!
I make “charming expressions” and I have a lazy eye too!
I feel the exact same way about having my picture taken and I have some that look just as bad!
I hate having my photo taken sometimes too Ashley lol
:)
P.S Runaway sounds like it is going to be really good.
Nora– thanks for commenting. Good luck with the contest!
Ashley– I guess we all have a “bad” side. Don’t we?
Emma– we hear it’s great! Thanks for the comment!
That is SOOO hilarious! I love the way Meg describes life, even though she’s telling us about how she hates getting her picture taken she still finds a way to make it amusing and VERY relatable! :D
I know exactly what you mean! i’m the girl who always seems to have one eye open and the other closed…ridiculous.
I hate having my pictures taken. I pull #4 all the time. Of course that probably doesn’t make my pictures look any better. xD
Meg is soo funny… :D
but that’s ok, we all have tons of bad pictures anyway.
I can’t wait to read Runaway! :)
Lexica- thanks for the comment!
Amanda- thanks for the comment!
Rose- I think we can all relate to taking a bad picture!
Natalia- thanks so much for commenting!
I love Meg Cabot! Her books are the best! She is so funny!
This is hilarious! I have been a fan of meg’s for many years and still didn’t know this stuff!
You are brave for showing unflattering pictures. You are a better woman than I, Meg. And My kitty looks strikingly similar to yours. Small world filled with fuzzy kitties, huh?
I’ve never read you books, but I’ve heard so many great things about them. This prize pack would be a perfect starter. No?
I love this series. I can’t wait to get the third book!
oh, it sure is a good relief to know that the famous people also aren’t always photogenic! I hate 9 out of 10 pictures of mine, haha. Meg is amazing!
Ohman, that was HILARIOUS! I don’t really think the photos were all that bad, though.
Gotta love some Meg Cabot!
I was reading Meg’s blog about how you guys had posted these awful photos of her and I thought “how dare they”…..but suprise, suprise! Meg volunteered those photos! For someone who hates these pictures, she sure is brave to give them out willingly! LOVE HER! :)
P.S. Those pictures totally aren’t bad at all!
Meg, you’re not the only one who hates getting photos taken!I hate it too and my friends are always bugging me to have a photo taken of me! And half the time the photos of me are really bad or I don’t like. But your photos aren’t bad at all! They could be some photos you can laugh about when you’re in need I’d cheering up! ;)
haha I’m usually the one taking the pictures and causing the groans and funny faces in my family. But funny faced pictures are fun to look back at and remember what you were doing so it’s all good :)
I love Meg Cabot…. I’ve entered so many of her contests…. haven’t one once…lol. She’s just so genuine it’s nice. Nice blog guys! I’m totally gonna go and check out more of it.
(P.S. I do the same squint too… whenever I laugh…. So if I’m laughing in a photo…. there go my eyes.)
Great interview! I hate having my picture taken as well!
It’s nice to know that others have the same feeling! Especially someone like Meg Cabot.
I find that when people take my picture I look like crap so I avoid it haha
I am seriously so excited for the book I can’t wait to read it.Love Meg Cabot
Wow. Terribly brave of her to do this. I CANNOT WAIT FOR RUNWAY!!! Oops. Sorry for the caps. Not really. But whatever. Bye. :D
I’ve started to not like getting my photo taken lol I wish I could hire a professional team to take all of my pictures!
Meg Cabot is my favorite author, I love everything about her!
I just love Meg and can’t wait to read Runaway. I hate getting my picture taken, too. On the rare occasion someone actually manages to get one of me, I always have Oh-my-god-a-camera-need-to-HIDE eyes going on.
Wow! So Meg’s 5 worst pictures are TOTALLY not that bad! From my own experience being a not-so-photogenic girl I was expecting worse. But then there’s a reason why my photos get deleted while still on my camera and she’s putting hers up on the internet. (Mine are worse.) Plus I totally love Meg and am finding that I have more and more in common with her! A six-foot-eight brother, a one-eyed cat, and now a lazy eye! Amazing…weird, but amazing! Thanks Liz & Lisa for your blog and thanks Meg for sharing!
That was hilarious. And I agree with other commentors, Meg Cabot’s five worst pictures are not that bad. I have worse. Thanks for the great blog. Meg Cabot rules!
Love it – love it – LOVE IT! I feel the EXACT same way about having my picture taken! Thank you so much for posting!
Btw – Chick Lit is most certainly not dead! I’m not ashamed to say that it’s my favorite genre and am in the middle of the Princess Diaries right now!
xox~andrea
Mandy- thanks so much for your comment!
Audrey- they really weren’t that bad. But I think we’re always the hardest on ourselves. I love that she had fun with it!
Sarah- Oh yes, she volunteered them! We would nevuh! PS: You’re right- they’re not!
Sandy–thanks so much for the comment!
Kira- we agree!
Melinda- Myabe you’ll win this time!
Mariah-Thanks! And thanks for stopping by the site! Visit again.
Jessica- Does ANYONE other than Angelina Jolie take a good picture? I have to wonder…
Ana- thanks for the comment!
Andrea–Long live Chick Lit!!
Awesome post. I loved seeing the photos. I ADORE Meg Cabot too :) and can’t wait to read RUNAWAY
Thanks, Jennifer! Thanks for commenting!
Those pictures are hilarious. It’s always nice to realize that people who are much more frequently photographed share my anxiety.
I am in my forties and so glad my daughter is finally old enough that I can now pretend that I am buying Meg Cabot’s YA books for her. I don’t ordinarily read YA, I picked up Airhead and she had me. So glad to hear there is another!
been wanting to read runaway since last summer. cant believe it comes out tomorrow (:
