5 Things Liz & Lisa didn’t know about…Sarah Mlynowski

by Liz

Teens have it so good these days.  I mean, come on. Cell phones, (we’re from the “pager” era) IPods, (um, is this where we mention we remember 8-tracks?) and YA fiction.  So not only do these kids get to listen to their favorite song over and over without rewinding a tape, they also have a whole genre of fiction devoted just to them.  And the best part? There’s a ton of awesome YA writers out there. (Just ask Liz-she’s a closeted YA addict!)

And we’re lucky enough to have Sarah Mlynowski sharing 5 things we don’t know about her today.  She’s the author of the popular Magic in Manhattan series. Her latest YA effort, Gimme a Call is a lot of fun (AND has already been optioned by Paramount!).  It’s a lighthearted read about a girl who, after dropping her cell phone in a fountain, is able to call her fourteen-year-old self and tell her all the things she wish she had known three years ago.

Want to win a copy?  We’ve got five! Just leave a comment and you’ll be entered to win!  We’ll choose the winner by random drawing on Wednesday evening.

And if you’re just unable to embrace your inner teen, don’t fret-Sarah’s got some chick lit up her sleeve too.  In fact,  Me vs. Me is one of our favorite books and See Jane Write is a must read for any aspiring chick lit author!

So take a minute to get to know more about the fabulous Sarah! And wait till you see the VIDEO evidence she provided to back up one of her 5 things! Love it!

5 things Liz & Lisa didn’t know about…Sarah Mlynowski!

1. I speak four languages. English, French, Hebrew and Yiddish. Yes, Yiddish. I’m not kibitzing with you.

2. I’ve moved eleven times in the last fifteen years. Two countries, four cities, six roommates, one husband, and one adorable baby. So much packing tape.

3. My mom is a novelist too. She’s published four romance novels under the name Elissa Ambrose. Obviously, when I read her books, I skip over the sex scenes.

4. I hate soda. I don’t understand the appeal. I’ve never understood the appeal. Those bubbles burn. Why would anyone want to drink something that causes pain? It makes no sense.

5. I learned how to ride a bike when I was twenty-seven. My dad tried to teach me when I was a kid, but I refused to let him take off the training wheels. My husband decided enough was enough, and taught me on our honeymoon. Unfortunately, I mowed down some flowers. Unfortunately, there is video evidence-see below!

To read more about the lovely Sarah Mlynowski, head on over to her website or find her on Facebook and Twitter!

She’s the Author of “Milkrun” right? I loved that book! Very funny.
I’ve been wanting to read another by her.

Elaine July 12, 2010 at 7:48 am

I am a big fan of YA books. I would be psyched to get to read this one for free!

R0byn Lenssen July 12, 2010 at 7:51 am

sounds like a fun book to read. been looking for something new to occupy my time.

Ella July 12, 2010 at 7:55 am

I also tried to learn how to bike when I was about 5 or 6 I think however during my first and last attempt I struggled to balance and almost fell so I stopped. If ever I would bike I would do so with training wheels on ;) It somewhat ironic to know if you are reading your mom’s romance novels hehe ;)

Heidi Milton July 12, 2010 at 8:00 am

My teenage daughter LOVES Sarah’s books! We would love to have a copy– sounds like one I would enjoy, too :). Thanks, ladies…I’m off to wake up my girl to tell her about it!

Maria July 12, 2010 at 8:07 am

Would love to win! Sounds like a great story.

Mary Farmer July 12, 2010 at 8:18 am

If I won this book it would be passed around to my whole family: teenage nieces (if appropriate); mom; two sisters; and some of there friends. It will be in much-loved but perhaps a bit tattered state. Like a teddy bear missing a little stuffing with one eye loose.

Mary Farmer July 12, 2010 at 8:20 am

Aaack, I despise bad grammar & mispelling. Of course I meant “their friends”, not “there friends”. I’m so ashamed.

Liz July 12, 2010 at 8:25 am

Mary, no worries, you should see my posts before my husband proof reads them. We’re all friends here! xoxo

Liz July 12, 2010 at 8:25 am

Kourtney July 12, 2010 at 11:02 am

Not to come off sounding like a crazy fan but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Sarah’s books!! Both the YA and Chick Lit variety. I find myself laughing with every story, and finding it hard to put the book down. I’m crossing my fingers that Sarah will write another chick lit story soon (while I love the YA I’m craving a new chick lit!)

BTW – Gimmie a Call is a GREAT read! I read it the first week it was out while I was on vacation and couldn’t get enough! When driving, my boyfriend likes for me to read to him and even he got very into the story. When I would read by myself (usually at 7am when he was still sleeping – I’m an early riser!) he would chase me down shouting “WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?! HOW COULD YOU READ AHEAD!” I highly recommend Gimmie a Call (and apparantly so does my bf).

JenP July 12, 2010 at 11:03 am

I admire anyone who can stand moving that often! Please enter me.

Erika July 12, 2010 at 11:08 am

Learned to ride a bike at 27! thats crazy, i bet it is harder when you are an adult too

Susan July 12, 2010 at 11:47 am

WOW!! I’m a military wife and thought that we have moved a lot. She has me beat big time!!! I can’t even imagine! :O I love Sarah’s short stories in “Girls Night Out” and “Girl’s Night In”. Would love to read a full novel that she has written!

Namine July 12, 2010 at 11:53 am

I never thought about rewinding a tape, that would be a pain just to listen to your favorite song again!! This sounds like a fun book!! She’s moved a ton! And all over the place!!

Melissa July 12, 2010 at 12:22 pm

Yay! Another Jewish author. :) I know minimal Yiddish, thanks to my late maternal grandma. I also know minimal Hebrew, thanks to how disorganized my Hebrew school class was. I can read prayers though. :)
Anyway, this book sounds really cute and Sarah sounds like a fun author.
Please enter me in this giveaway. Thanks! :)
